Today's Topic: Parental Frustrations
While today's topic addresses a mother's frustrations with a young child, I would ask you to consider the possibilities of how you could apply this to many situations in your life. Who around you has difficulties communicating clearly or tends to be frequently frantic or cranky? Maybe this could help relieve your own frustrations as well as some of theirs!
Tiffany wrote to me seeking assistance with "parental frustrations" with her daughter Evie related to napping and communication issues. Evie seems to avoid the naps she requires and becomes angry and frustrated she experiences dificulty conveying her wishes to adults. She is just developing her vocabulary.
First Tiffany, consider tapping on your own frustrations. As a mom, I can well relate since my son did everything in his power to avoid sleep, for fear he would miss out on something! Consider something like this:
Even though I am frustrated beyond belief, because she refuses to sleep, I choose to feel calm and confident.
Even though I sometimes feel inadequate, I choose to trust and believe in me.
Even though I am frustrated because as much as I strain, I simply don't understand exactly what she wants, I am sure I will figure it out.
Even though I am not sure I am always doing the best that I can for her, I love and forgive myself.
Create phrases that resonate for you, being as specific as possible. By remaining calm, cool and collected, more than likely that alone will help in calming Evie. Children are amazingly sensitive to our "nervous energy" and tend to pick up on it. Many moms I have worked with have witnessed an instant change in their children when they manage to let go of their own stress.
A few things I would suggest for Evie:
1) When nap time comes, consider sitting next to her and gently massaging some of the tapping points while you softly sing to her or talk to her about the things she might do after enjoying a good nap. Another great concept that can generate great results is gently massaging the points as you talk to her about her day and how it went, things she found troubling and things she enjoyed. If she is resistant to your massaging the points consider tapping on yourself as you talk with her or
2) Surrogate tapping can be amazing for naps as well:
Even though I don't want to be left alone in this room, I choose to sleep soundly and enjoy sweet dreams. I know mom will be here when I wake up.
Even though I don't want to take a nap, I know I will feel better afterwards.
Do surrogate tapping hours in advance. Don't wait until it is nap time. Do it on a daily basis for a while, because persistence always pays off. If you can think of any reason why she might be avoiding naps, tap on it:
Even though I am sure I am going to miss out on something, I choose relax and sleep knowing great things will be happening when I wake up.
Even though I am concerned that mom won't be here when I wake up, I choose to feel safe, knowing she will.
Where the communication difficulties are concerned, tapping surrogately for Evie (after tapping on your own frustrations) should prove worthwhile. Remember persistence...
Even though I feel like no one understands me, I am OK anyway.
Even though I am angry and cranky because I am convinced that Mom is clueless! I choose to feel calm and relaxed. Even though I am sure no one understands me, I choose to remain calm, knowing they will eventually get the message.
You might even consider surrogate tapping to enhance and broaden her vocabulary, which might in turn improve her self-confidence:
Even though I am struggling to form my words, I choose to have them come to me easily.
Even though I am frustrated because I can't find the words I need, I am a great gal anyway!

Morning tapping can give you an energy boost and provide noticable benefits, especially if you wake up tense, with negative thoughts, dread or anticipation of the days' challenges.
As you make your way out of bed, pause at the edge and place your right hand over the sore spot on your chest. Don't worry about getting it exactly right. Tune into any troubling feeling(s) you may have. Rub gently and riff on this phrase:
Even though I feel _____ about the coming day - I think I know exactly what to expect, I deeply and completely accept myself anyway. Repeat this 3 times.
Then tap through the sequence, on each point:
This ________ feeling...
Then, one more time through the sequence, transforming the energy:
I want a great day regardless, I choose to feel good about my choices. I want to open to new opportunites and possibilities. I choose to feel protected. I am protected as I create my day...
